We talk a lot about Search Engine Optimization in EcommerceBytes Insider because it is such an important way to get traffic to your website and product listings. Now it looks like the rules may be changing, at least for optimizing your website for Google's search engine.
WebProNews interviewed Bruce Clay about a trend toward "personalization." Bruce said under a new system coming from Google, everybody who does a search would end up with different search results based on their prior search history. This makes for a more difficult environment for website owners who take SEO seriously.
In the last issue, Clay Olivier of Volusion talked about some basic SEO principles, and those best practices will still apply even with personalized search. We'll continue to look at trends and best practices, and we have an interview with search guru Danny Sullivan of Search Engine Land coming up in a future issue.
In today's issue of EcommerceBytes Insider, Alibaba.com's Kelly Sang discusses product sourcing, and Kevin Richards of VenturaWebDesign.com explains how to quickly set up an effective Yahoo! Store.
We are publishing early this month because of the Thanksgiving holiday next week in the U.S. It's hard to believe that Black Friday and Cyber Monday are just a week away. The data from October retail and etail sales were grim, and I think we're all holding our breaths to see what November and December will bring.
AuctionBytes.com, publisher of EcommerceBytes Insider, conducted a survey to find out how October sales were for small eBay and online sellers, and how they believed total holiday sales would fare. Sales were down in October 2008 compared to the previous year for a majority of respondents. And 27% thought their holiday sales (for the months of October, November, December) would be excellent or good, 31% thought their sales would be fair, and 42% said their sales would be not good or terrible. You can can read all about it on the AuctionBytes Blog where there is a link to the results and a discussion.
I wish you the best of luck with your holiday sales, thanks for reading EcommerceBytes Insider - strategies for ecommerce success.
